To Find Support

Pamela-WruckeIn April 2011, I joined Weight Watchers for what seemed like the millionth time. For whatever reason, I had in my mind that I was going to do it this time and begin to make changes in my lifestyle before the age of 50. I knew I would not likely be near my goal by then, but I was determined to try!

I followed the plan and began walking every morning, 2-3 miles per day. That July, I decided to join some friends and my Weight Watchers leader who were training for the Evansville Half Marathon with Team 13. I told them there was no way I was going to participate in the Half Marathon, but I would try and go through the 13 week training. After week 11 of training and walking 10 miles, I thought what’s 3.1 more miles? So I did it! I signed up for the Evansville Half Marathon and completed the race in 3:13:31.

I didn’t stop there though. I joined Team 13 again the next year and again participated in the Half Marathon. By October the following year, I completed 5 half marathons, several 5K & 10K runs, and even a full marathon, and I improved my time each race.

Fast forward to today, and I am a full-fledged runner, running with my friends that I made through Team 13. To date, I have completed 7 half marathons, 1 full marathon, a number of 5K & 10Ks, and have already registered for 5 more half marathons this year.

Since I started my journey, I have shed over 100 lbs. I have to say the two main keys to my success have been support groups like Weight Watchers and Team 13 each week as well as consistent exercise. If it weren’t for Team 13 and all the friends that help and encourage me along the way, I am pretty sure I would not have a story to share today.

If I can do this, anyone can do this!
