To Be Part of Something

Cecilia-Kuester-WebI don’t consider myself a runner, but with the the encouragement of my husband as a member of Jump Start, I tried the run/walk.  I discovered I can do it!

There were bumps in the road.  I developed plantar fasciitis a month before my first Half Marathon.  After talking to other Team 13 members though, I soon learned how they treat similar injuries.

That’s where I met Liz, a Team 13 member.  She is a speed walker so we trained together.  She’s such a motivator!  We crossed the finish line of my first Half Marathon together.  Tears of joy, happiness, and achievement just streamed down my face.

At the 10K warm up race in 2012, I met Carla.  Her sisters and friends were taking a picture along the race course.  She invited me to be in the picture.  I was someone she didn’t even know.  Today, we continue meeting on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays to run/walk together. They are my running family.

That was five Half Marathons and several 5K and 10K races ago.  This year I am a volunteer for Jump Start and Team 13. This is taking run/walk training to a whole other level.  I am training for the Half Marathon in addition to helping others train.

Today, I mentally and physically feel healthy.  I am a member of a Running Family, and I’ve met so many wonderful people.  As a volunteer, it is rewarding to help others on their way to achieving their goals.  Jump Start and Team 13 have given me new opportunities to live life to the fullest!

This Is Y.
